Activating or Transferring NI Software to New PCs

Issue Details

  • I am working on updating the test systems for my company, but I'm not sure whether I need to purchase new licenses. If I wanted to replace the existing PC with a newer PC, what do I do to get the new PC activate?
  • Do I need to cancel the activation of a NI software in my computer before I install and activate it in another computer with my Serial Number?
  • How do I transfer National Instruments products from one system to another?


As highlighted in the Help article, Moving an Activated Product to Another Computer, all you need is the existing Serial Number of your current license to activate the new computer's software.

If you were to exceed the number of seats permitted in the NI Software License Agreement, you will need to deactivate the NI software on the computer you are retiring and then activate the NI software the new computer.
