Issue Details

I'm working with IntrumentStudio and I would like to export and use the configuration of my modular instruments on TestStand. How can I do that?

Solution

1. First make sure to use InstrumentStudio 2019 or higher and TestStand 2019 (64-bit), from InstrumentStudio it's possible to export the hardware configuration to TestStand following the indications provided in Exporting Configurations to TestStand. Configuration files are saved by default on <Users>\Public\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand\Shared\IO Configurations.

2.On TestStand, configuration files are visible from the Templates /IO Configurations pane:

3. On a sequence file, just double-click the configuration file and a new step called Create Session and Apply will be added:

Also, new a local variable which include the information regarding the session of device will be added. This variable will have the same name of the instrument on NI-MAX:

Check the local variable in the Variables pane in TestStand:

4. For here you can use the session information as input to other step within the sequence:

5. Make sure to close the session to the device in the Cleanup group using the step Close Sessions.

Additional Information

You can also modify the configuration of an specific device using the step Apply Configuration.
