Issue Details

I recently upgraded the firmware on my ELVIS III, and after formatting the drive when I try to add/remove software to the unit I get this strange error message. What can I do?

There are a number of steps to try to troubleshoot this issue:
  1. Ensure that the correct process has been taken to do upgrade the firmware and install software (update the firmware, reformat the unit and then install the software)
  2. Check to make sure that the device is in safe mode when reformatting the unit.
  3. Ensure that the device has enough disk space to properly install the software, see this article on an error when formatting due to the disk space
  4. Check to make sure that there aren't any firewall restrictions blocking access to the ELVIS unit.
  5. Use a clean download of the firmware for the unit, and reflash the firmware to the device.
  6. Try a different ELVIS unit, or try to install software from a different computer if available.
  7. Reinstall all of the software on the host, as it could be a corruption with some of the other software.
  8. Perform an I/O Trace and check the Windows Event logs during the failed installation, as this can be a valuable resource to see what may have caused the failure
