What's the Inrush Current for My cRIO?

Issue Details

  • The datasheet for the cRIO specifies the maximum power consumption for a fully populated system running a high-stress application. What is the estimated inrush current as the system is powered up?
  • Does Crio include a soft-start feature that would stop excessive inrush?

Solution

  • National Instruments does not specify the inrush current for a cRIO when it is powered on. This is due to the inrush current being very system-dependent. Therefore, there are too many variables to generate a reliable number.
  • Some CompactRIOs have a soft start that limits current during its initial boot. Please check the specifications document for your specific device to see if this exists in your CompactRIO.
