Connection Error When Trying to Login NI Account for Software Activation

Issue Details

  • I am trying to activate my NI software online through the NI Licensing Wizard. When I try to log into my NI account, I receive the following error message:

Connection error. Check your internet connection and try again. If this problem persists, contact NI support.

  • I'm seeing a connection error when trying to launch NI software despite being connected to the internet.
  • When I launch newly installed NI software for the first time, I see the following message:
There is currently an issue contacting our servers. Please close and try again later.

Solution

Follow the below troubleshooting steps to resolve this error:
  • You must allow specific NI URLs and their corresponding ports access through your firewall. This will allow communication to the NI servers.
  • Disconnect your system from the internet, reboot, and connect again.
  • Repair each of the software packages that produce this error by following the steps in Repair Software In NI Package Manager (NIPM) .
  • Repair NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) and NI System Web Server from NI Package Manager by following the below steps:
    1. Open NI Package Manager.
    2. Go to the Installed tab.
    3. Check the Products only box.
    4. Search for NI Measurement & Automation Explorer and check the box to its left.
    5. Uncheck the Products only box.
    6. Search for NI System Web Server and check the box to its left.
    7. Click on the green Repair button.
  • Update NI License Manager to the latest compatible version with your OS.

If you cannot allow the above-mentioned URLs through your firewall, please use NI Product Activation to generate offline activation codes and follow the steps detailed in Activate NI Software Without Internet Connection  to activate your software.
