NI Application Displays "Server Error" When Launching or Activating

Issue Details

My PC is connected to the internet, but I receive the following error message when I attempt one of these actions:
  • Launch NI software while connected to the internet.
  • Activate newly installed NI software using NI License Manager.
  • Launch newly installed NI software for the first time.
I receive the following error message:

    Solution

    Follow the below troubleshooting steps to resolve this error:

    Reset the Cached NI User Account File

    1. Close LabVIEW, NI License Manager, and all other NI software.
    2. Open File Explorer and navigate to:
      1. %localappdata%\National Instruments\UserAccount\
    3. Delete or rename:
      1. Configuration.xml
    4. Launch the affected NI software again.
    Deleting this file only resets cached NI User Account information. The file is recreated automatically when the application starts.

    Repair NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) and NI System Web Server

    1. Open NI Package Manager.
    2. Select the Installed tab.
    3. Select Products only.
    4. Locate and select NI Measurement & Automation Explorer
    5. .Clear Products only.
    6. Locate and select NI System Web Server.
    7. Select Repair.
    8. Restart the PC if prompted.

    Verify Network, VPN, and Proxy Configuration

    If the computer is connected to a corporate network, VPN, or proxy server:
    1. Test the software on a different network, if available.
    2. Contact the local IT administrator and verify that outbound access is allowed to the following endpoints:
      • delta.ni.com (TCP 443)
      • download.ni.com (TCP 80, 443)
      • ni.com (TCP 80, 443)

    Repair the Affected NI Software

    Repair any NI software package that displays this error.
    1. Follow the steps in Repair Software in NI Package Manager (NIPM).
    2. Test the software after the repair completes.

    Update NI License Manager

    1. Download the latest version of NI License Manager that is compatible with the operating system.
    2. Review the Supported OS section on the download page to confirm compatibility.
    3. Install the update and restart the computer if prompted.
    4. Launch the affected software and verify that the error no longer occurs.

    Additional Information

    If you cannot allow the above-mentioned URLs through your firewall, please use NI Product Activation to generate offline activation codes and follow the steps detailed in Activate NI Software Without Internet Connection  to activate your software.
