Issue Details

I am using a NI PXI-6682(H) or NI PXI-6683(H) to get a GPS time reference for my PXI system. I noticed the GPS Status property returns Antenna Error either in an NI MAX Test Panel or when I read this property from an NI-Sync Property Node. Why am I getting this error?

This error occurs when the GPS antenna is not present or is broken. Ensure the antenna is connected properly. If possible, test the card with a different antenna.

In some cases, valid GPS data can still be received while the Antenna Error is present. This can occur if the antenna is not drawing enough current to be detected by the module. If this is the case, the Time Reference Present property will be True on the Time Reference tab of an NI MAX Test Panel or when queried from an NI-Sync property node.

Keep in mind that your antenna should be in a location with a clear view of the sky in all directions. Also make sure that the length of your antenna cable is not so long as to cause significant degradation of the signal. Please see the user manual for your device (in Related Links) in order to determine the maximum suitable cable length.
