Issue Details

While running Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) I get a MAX Installation Error with the following message:

The MAX database is not installed on the system.

along with the Info Code MAXServiceNotInstalledError.

What can I do to resolve this?

As the error suggests, this is the result of a bad installation, and repairing your MAX installation is recommended. To do this, go to Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Control Panel>>Programs and Features (Windows 7)  and select National Instruments Software in the list.
This will open a new dialog box. In the new dialog box, select NI Measurement & Automation Explorer from the list, and click the Repair option on the right hand side.

Note: When running a repair, you will need to have the disk/media for the original installation available.

If the repair is unsuccessful, the next step is to run a full uninstall/reinstall of MAX. MAX is typically bundled with other NI Software and is not available as it's own download. The System Configuration download is a good option in this case. It is highly recommended that you are logged in as an administrator when installing the software.

Note: In certain cases a force reinstall may be warranted.

After the repair completes, restart your computer, and launch MAX to check if it works properly.
If the problem persists, please contact National Instruments by creating a Service Request here.
