Can I use DAQmx on two different LabVIEW versions on the same computer?

It is possible to use DAQmx on two different LabVIEW versions on the same computer, but only if both versions of LabVIEW are using the same version of DAQmx.

It is only possible to use one version of DAQmx on a single computer. For an explanation of that point, please refer to the following link.

Multiple DAQmx Drivers on One Computer

To use a single version of DAQmx with two different versions of LabVIEW, the DAQmx version must be compatible with both versions of LabVIEW. To check LabVIEW and DAQmx compatibility, please refer to the compatibility chart in the following link.

NI-DAQmx and LabVIEW Compatibility

If there is a compatible version of DAQmx for both LabVIEW versions, you can use that version of DAQmx with both versions of LabVIEW.

Installation of DAQmx with both LabVIEW Versions
  • The compatible version of DAQmx must be installed after both of the LabVIEW versions are installed on the computer.
  • If there is already an older version of DAQmx on the computer, the newer version can be installed atop the old version.
  • If there is already a newer version of DAQmx on the computer, you will have to uninstall your current version before you roll back to an older version of DAQmx.
    • To do this, go to 'Uninstall a program' on your computer. Select 'National Instruments Software' and click Uninstall/Change.
    • You will then need to select the following three DAQmx items and click 'Remove Selected':
      • NI-DAQmx
      • NI-DAQmx ADE Support
      • NI-DAQmx MAX Configuration Support
    • After that, you will need to restart your computer, and then you can proceed with the installation of your older version of DAQmx.
