Why Can't I Export My Custom Scales in the MAX Export Configuration Wizard?

Issue Details

When I try to export my custom scales with the MAX Export Configuration Wizard, they do not show up on the list of valid export items. Why am I unable to export custom scales from NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)?

Solution

The MAX database has most likely become corrupt. The corruption can be fixed by resetting MAX database, but doing so will result in a loss of all MAX configuration data, including custom scales. Before restoring the MAX database, all custom scales must be saved to file.  Complete the following steps to back up your custom scales using LabVIEW, reset  MAX database, and then reload the backed up custom scales into a new MAX configuration.
  1. Download the attached files GetScales.vi and SaveScalesToMAX.vi below.  You will need LabVIEW 8.6 or newer in order to run them.
  2. Run GetScales.vi on your local machine. You will be prompted to provide the name and location of a new TDMS file that will include your custom scale information.
  3. When GetScales.vi is finished executing, repair MAX database corruption by following the steps in KnowledgeBase 4GA9TOQA: What is the Process For Resetting the MAX Database?
  4. Run SaveScalesToMAX.vi and select the saved TDMS file when prompted. The custom scales will be saved to MAX without overwriting or deleting any existing scales. You should now be able to export your custom scales by using the MAX Export Configuration Wizard.
