Issue Details

  • My PXI chassis has a fan LED error according to its manual for the fan or the fans are non-functional.
  • The LED in the PXI chassis is off and it's not turning on when powered up.
  • I have a PXI Chassis, the fan switch on the back was set to Auto and after some years the chassis powered off by itself. It will only power on with the fan switch set to high. If I set the switch back to Auto it will not power up.

Solution

Below are some recommended troubleshooting steps if you are encountering this issue:

  • Perform a power cycle and check if the issue remains:
  1. Disconnect the power cord of the chassis.
  2. Press the power button for 5 seconds and release.
  3. Connect again the power cord to the chassis. (Try another power cord)
  4. Change the Fan switch to Auto.
  5. Power up the chassis.
  6. Verify that the power source has electricity.
  • Try removing all peripheral modules from the PXIe chassis. Power up the chassis to see if the issue still remains. If not, add the peripheral modules back into the chassis one at a time with power cycles in-between each card.
  • If your chassis doesn't turn on Auto and you have a Red PWR LED, it means the Power is out of Spec. Try searching the User Manual of your chassis for further information.
  • A blinking LED indicates that one or more of the fans is failing and needs to be replaced. To troubleshoot this issue, replace the cooling fan with a verified functioning cooling fan and test the chassis. If the cooling fan functions correctly, the original cooling fan is faulty and should be replaced. If the replacement cooling fan also fails, please contact NI Support .
  • A off LED means that the device is not receiving any power.
