Issue Details

I am simulating a circuit in NI Multisim and I inserted a 1A current source. When I measured the current at one of the nodes, the current reading is greater than the current source. Why am I getting more current from the circuit than what I applied to it?

Solution

The SPICE simulator performs Kirchhoff's current law on each node. This means that the algebraic sum of current through any node must equal zero. However, many SPICE models such as an op-amp, have voltage and current control sources inside the model and these internal sources can cause the current reading in your circuit to be greater than the supply current source.
