Issue Details

When trying to start LabVIEW, it crashes and throws an error:

Error 0xC0000005 (Access Violation)
 

Solution

Try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the crash: 

• Run LabVIEW as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the program in Windows Explorer and select Run as Administrator.
• Make sure you've installed the latest patch for your LabVIEW version. Patches will often address the most common causes of LabVIEW crashes.
• If you identified the VI that is causing the crash, try to recreate the VI from scratch and replace it in the project.
• If the crash occurs when opening a specific project, try creating a new project and moving all the VIs and required files to it. Then, save the project and use it instead of the project with problems.
• Check if there is no third-party driver such as Snowflake database causing LabVIEW to crash. If so, update the driver version to ensure stability.
• Disable any firewall/antivirus presented in your system and then run LabVIEW. If the application is launched without any issues, work with your IT department to whitelist LabVIEW on your firewall/antivirus.
• If you have a volume license or are getting access to LabVIEW via a server on your company's network, verify your computer's communication with your network
  • Make sure your network cabling is functional
  • Make sure the NIC (Network Interface Controller) for your computer is connected
  • Make sure there are no network ports blocked by a switch/router
• Force reinstall LabVIEW.
  • After the force re-installation is complete, rerun the program as an administrator
• Uninstall LabVIEW, re-download the installation media, then reinstall LabVIEW from the new installation media files. 
• Uninstall all NI software from the NI Package Manager, then uninstall the NI Package Manager, manually delete the following folders, and Install LabVIEW:
  • C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\LabVIEW Data
  • C:\Program Files\National Instruments
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments
  • C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\National Instruments
• If you upgraded your operating system, confirm all NI software installed is still compatible: 
  • NI Product Compatibility with Windows 11
  • ​NI Product Compatibility with Windows 10
  • NI Product Compatibility with Windows 8
  • NI Product Compatibility with Windows 7
• If any software is not compatible, disconnect any NI hardware connected to the computer and uninstall the version of the incompatible software. Then, install the compatible version and restart the computer.

Additional Information

An access violation error may be, but is not always, caused by a lack of permissions. This may happen when trying to start a program you don't have access to or when a file tries to access a folder it doesn't have access to. The problem may be due to a lack of administrator privileges, which may be caused by anti-virus software.

Whenever you see a LabVIEW crash, please submit the crash report to NI. You can do this by clicking Send in the LabVIEW Crash Reporter dialog box. NI analyzes these crash reports to make improvements to our products.
