Why Is the Function Generator Output Amplitude Doubled in NI Multisim?

Issue Details

I set the function generator to output a 1 Vpeak sine wave, but when I acquire the signal with a scope, I am reading 2 Vpeak. Why is the output of the function generator twice as large than what I set and how can I correct it?

Solution

To avoid this behavior, ensure your function generator is connected as shown in the image below.

Additional Information

The function generator has three terminals, positive output, negative output and a middle reference terminal. The negative output terminal generates the opposite polarity as the positive output pin; therefore, if you connect the circuit ground to the negative output you will get a signal with an amplitude two times larger than what you set. Instead, you should connect your circuit ground reference to the middle reference terminal of the Function Generator.
