Issue Details

I want to read the internal temperature and voltage of my NI device. How do I do this?

Solution

When using PXI/PXIe chassis, the internal temperature can be read using the NI System Configuration API. This toolkit includes examples that show how to monitor chassis temperature or temperature of specific devices in the chassis. Some chassis, like the PXIe 1085, will display internal temperatures directly in MAX, but this feature isn't available on all chassis.

If you're using a platform other than PXI, there might not be an internal sensor for temperature. Check the Related Links section for more information.

Additional Information

There is no way to get the temperature and voltage of a cDAQ chassis controller currently. We recommend 2 workarounds:
  1. Acquire a device with this functionality. Most cRIOs and PXIs have this feature.
  2. Use a C Series modules compatible with your cDAQ for reading voltage or temperature. You can connect the sensor near to the chip but this will not give you a accurate measurement.
