Error in MAX: Plug-In Caused an Exception in function in the MAX Process

Issue Details

• I am getting the following Unexpected Internal Warning in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (NI MAX).

The [NAME] plug-in caused an exception in the [NAME] function in the MAX process.

In addition to the error:

• LabVIEW freezes when I try to add DAQ Assistant to the Block Diagram
• NI-MAX generates an exception when we trying to create a task 
• NI-MAX throws an error when trying to use the MAX Report Wizard to generate a MAX Report.

Note: A variety of plug-ins can cause problems in a variety of functions. [NAME] is being used as a placeholder.

Examples include:

• ? in CCreateWizardWrapper::InitCreateNew2  
• niVISAui.max in CmxAggregateItemUI::GenerateReport

Solution

• This usually indicates corruption of the NI-DAQ™mx driver installation. This can be corrected with a force reinstall of the NI-DAQmx - this process replaces all files in the installation.
  1. Obtain installation files. These can be found on disk or downloaded from the NI website: Download NI-DAQmx Driver
  2. Run force reinstall as described in Force Reinstall NI Software from the Command Prompt in Windows
• The crashes might also originate in NI-MAX. Try the following steps to resolve this:
  1. Download the Latest Version of Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)
  2. Uninstall NI-MAX (or better all NI products) and then force reinstall with the version of NI-MAX that is directly related to the NI-DAQmx driver version that you have. You can find this information in this article: Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) Version Installed with NI-DAQmx Drivers
• This error can be caused by an anti-virus software blocking access to NI Software. Be sure to whitelist the National Instruments folders in Program Files.
