Issue Details

I purchased a PXI controller that came with Windows 7, and I need to install Windows XP on to it.
After reformatting the hard drive and installing Windows XP, my controller produces a blue screen at boot up. Why is my controller crashing?

Solution

One reason for it to fail is because the PXI controller is not configured to use a Windows XP compatible hard drive mode.
The hard drive mode will need to be changed to IDE. This is done by:
  1. Power on or reboot the controller.
  2. When the message <del> = BIOS Setup Menu appears, press the <del> key to enter the BIOS setup.
  3. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  4. Select the SATA Configuration menu option.
  5. Select the SATA Mode Selection setting and change it to IDE.
  6. Press the F10 key to save the changes, then reboot the controller.

Additional Information

Controllers with Windows 7 installed have hard drives configured to use the AHCI hard drive mode. Windows XP does not support AHCI.
