Issue Details

I am trying to connect to an Ethernet chassis in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and the chassis is not detected or grayed out. I also can not add it to MAX and it seems like there may be network connection issues though everything looks properly setup. When I try and press Add Device I get one of the following errors:
  • Error -201401: Retrieving properties from the network device failed. Make sure the device is connected.
  • Error -201250: Connection to the network device has timed out. The network device did not respond properly for a period of time. If timeouts persist, contact your system administrator.
  • Error -201252: Device could not be found on the network. This usually indicates an incorrect hostname or a DNS failure

Solution

  • Make sure to restart your computer after installing NI-DAQmx.
  • Make sure you are using a version of NI-DAQmx that is compatible with your device. Check NI-DAQmx drivers to get a list of the most recent versions of NI-DAQmx. Check the readme of the driver to ensure that it supports your cDAQ chassis.
  • Reinstall DAQmx
  • If you do have the correct driver installed, there may be a network connectivity issue  between your Ethernet cDAQ chassis and the computer.
  • You may need to reset the network adapters on your computer.
  • If the chassis is grayed out and modules are connected to it, click Add Device on MAX to add the device and the modules connected to it.
  • Ensure no other network devices are using the same IP address. There might be a pool of IP addresses that you are allowed to use. Refer to your IT department to check that.
  • Ensure that the cDAQ and your PC network adapter are using compatible IP addresses, especially if both are set to static. Please refer to the Related Links section for more information.
  • Ensure that the cDAQ is not currently running an application.

Additional Information

Support for the cDAQ-9185 and cDAQ-9189 chassis was only added in NI-DAQmx version 17.1. This can be verified by checking the Software Support for CompactDAQ  page and selecting either the cDAQ-9185 or cDAQ-9189 chassis from the drop-down menu.

Before upgrading your version of NI-DAQmx, it is important to verify 3 things:
  • The version you are upgrading to supports any older hardware you may be using. This can be verified by looking at the readme on the driver's download page.
After the cDAQ chassis is no longer greyed out, you may run into Error -50251, which is addressed here .
