Error -88705 Occurred at Self-Test in NI MAX

Issue Details

Why is my device failing when I run a self-test in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) with 
Error -88705 occurred at a Self-Test.
 

Solution

There are a wide variety of reasons that this error can occur. Potential causes and corresponding solutions for Error -88705 are stated below:

 

  • NI Services Not Running:

The NI Device Loader Windows Service (nidevldu) and/or NI Configuration Manager Service is not running, please start these services as described here. If the NI Device Loader still does not start automatically after restarting computer, you can try to uninstall all antivirus software in your computer and restart again. 

 

  • Computer Restart Needed:

This error is sometimes reported if the computer has not been restarted after the installation of an NI driver. Please try restarting your computer.

 

  • Firmware Updated Needed:

During a driver installation, firmware updates download with the driver for many NI devices. If you are using a USB device, this particular cause can be fixed by unplugging and re-plugging the device.

 

  • MAX Configuration Database Reset Needed:

Occasionally, the NI-MAX database can become corrupted due to a software install/update or other events impacting the registry files owned by MAX. Reset the database, restart your computer and devices, and try again.

 

  • Driver Reinstall needed:

Check which NI drivers are needed for your device (you can find this in the user manual for your device), then Uninstall or Repair National Instruments Software or Drivers in Windows and reinstall the drivers from ni.com.

 

  • Interference from non-NI drivers:

Windows may have associated the wrong driver with your device. You can manually set the driver that Windows associates with your device.
