Error 1935 NI VC2005MSMs x86 Installation Has Failed Occurs During Installation

Issue Details

When I try to install a piece of NI software, I get the following error:  

The NI VC2005MSMs x86 installation has failed with the following error.
Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly . . .




Why is this happening?

Solution

NI VC2005MSMs is required for the installation of NI Software such as NI-DAQmx, NI-FGEN, NI-SCOPE, and LabVIEW. Windows Update often locks this directory when it is running.

If the installation still fails after Windows Update has completed, install VC2005MSMs_X86 before running the installation wizard again.  Before attempting the steps below, restart your computer as it is possible some running process is preventing a successful install. 

To install VC2005MSMs_X86 on its own, do the following:
  1. Locate VC2005MSMs_x86.msi in the VC2005MSMs subfolder of your installation media (NI-DAQmx4.6.1/Products/VC2005MSMs/VC2005MSMs/VC2005MSMS_X86.msi for example)
  2. Double-click on the applicable .msi After VC2005MSMs_x86 has finished installing, restart your computer. After rebooting, the installation wizard will complete without error.

Additional Information

Most of our installation wizards install this necessary components before continuing with the rest of the installation; however, if a process running at the time of installation has locked the WinSXS directory, the installation will fail.
