Issue Details

NI makes several different SHC-C68 cables. What is the difference?

Solution

The SHC/SH68-C68 cables have 5 different varieties, D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5.  It is important to note the connector type and recommended devices.

  • The D1 is a single shielded cable with female D-type connectors; it has 125Ω single-ended impedance and is recommended for Counter/Timer devices.
  • The D2  is a single shielded cable with VHDCI connectors; it has 50Ω single-ended impedance. The D2 has been discontinued because of a change in one of our suppliers and is no longer available and has been replaced by the D4. If you still have D2 cables you should be able to use them interchangeably with the D4.
  • The D3 is double shielded  with VHDCI connectors; it has a 100Ω differential impedance and is recommended for digital data and control (DDC).
  • The D4  is a single shielded cable with VHDCI connectors; it has 50Ω single-ended impedance.
  • The D5 is a single shielded cable with VHDCI connectors; it has 50Ω single-ended impedance. It is often used for connecting to a NI-2515, but it also works for High-Speed Digital devices as this cable is 0.55m long.
