WSN-9792 Gateway Hacked via FTP

Issue Details

I am using WSN-9792 in remote, hard-to-access location and use FTP to transfer files. It has been hacked and infected with a virus.

Avoid using FTP (File Transfer Protocol), as it is not a very secure method. The recommended alternative to use with WSN gateways and CompactRIO (cRIO) targets is WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning).

If you must use FTP, other security protocols can be taken via network settings (for example, whitelisting certain devices and closing ports when not in use).

Additional Information

If you are having issues connecting to your target via methods other than FTP, check that your firewalls and port settings are configured to support the communication method. See recommended configurations in Configuring Software and Hardware Firewalls to Support National Instruments Products.

Security practices for cRIO and WSN gateway targets are discussed in Overview of Best Practices for Security on RIO Systems.
