NI Update Service: Lock Next to Updates "Update Requires a Standard Service Program Subscription"

Issue Details

When I open the NI Update Service, all programs have a lock next to them. I have a Standard Service Program (SSP) subscription, so I know that I am eligible for the upgrade. NI Update Service, however, tells me that "This update requires a Standard Service Program subscription. Service was not found for this product".  Why am I unable to upgrade?

Solution

If you are using a single seat license:

  1. Open NI License Manager
  2. Right-click the product and select Deactivate...
  3. Select the software again and click Activate... at the top of the window
  4. Once you see the serial number listed in NI License Manager, you can proceed with the software upgrade
If you are using a NI Volume License or Enterprise Agreement:
  1. Open NI License Manager
  2. Navigate to File >> Preferences
  3. Check the box that says "Unlock updates for which services expired"

  1. You should now see that the lock has been removed
  2. After downloading and installing the software, it will automatically activate through your volume license server

Additional Information

This warning is set in place to prevent users from downloading software they may not be able to activate.

This error can often occur when using a volume license server to activate products. The NI Update Service looks for local license files to verify whether your SSP subscription is active. f your volume license agreement automatically updates, and you have installed your most recent license file, you will still be able to activate the locked software; however, because activation through a license server does not generate a local license on the client machine, the NI Update Service cannot find a local license and assumes the SSP subscription has lapsed.
