NI Measurement & Automation Explorer Frozen After Clicking on Devices and Interfaces

Issue Details

National Instruments Measurement and Automation Explorer (NI MAX) freezes and says Searching and Not Responding after I click Devices and Interfaces.
An image of the behavior I am seeing is shown below. How do I fix this?

Solution

Unfortunately, a delay of up to a minute when expanding the Devices and Interfaces node on a remote system is considered normal behavior, during which NI MAX can become unresponsive. The reason for this is that the remote system has to enumerate any installed hardware via the System Configuration API in conjunction with the respective driver components that are installed. However, there are some steps you can try to prevent this behavior:
  • Remove and reconnect to your network connection:
  1. Remove your wired network connection
  2. Reconnect your wired network connection
  3. Close and reopen NI MAX
  4. You should now be able to properly select "Devices and Interfaces" within NI MAX
