How do I monitor values on my CAN bus?


There is a utility called NI-CAN Bus Monitor that you can access in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
The Bus Monitor displays statistics for raw CAN frames. It provides a basic tool to analyze CAN network traffic. 

To open the Bus Monitor utility folloe these steps:

  1. Open NI MAX from your start menu.
  2. Right clicking on the CAN interface and choosing Bus Monitor as shown in the figure below.

  1. The Bus Monitor utility opens in a new window as shown in the figure below.

If you need to open the Bus Monitor programmatically* from LabVIEW, you can use the code below to accomplish this.


*Please note that in order to open the NI CAN Bus Monitor we have to target a specific CAN port (in this case CAN0). If you are simply trying to open the NI CAN Bus Monitor without a CAN port specified, the EXE will not open and run.
