Issue Details

  • I am currently active and on-service with a Volume License Agreement (VLA).  How can I gain access to the online training content that comes with my VLA?
  • As a VLA administrator using NI Volume License Manager (VLM), how can I ensure all of my end users have access to online training?

Solution

There are two different ways of going about this depending if you are a software admin, or an end user:

Administrators

If you are using NI VLM:

  1. To grant online training access to all of your end users:
Send in your compliance log containing all of the necessary end user data to NI. There is a tutorial located here that will walk through Submitting a log file from NI VLM 3.X to NI. Each end user will need a ni.com user profile to gain access (make sure they have their company name the same as on the VLA). The email on their ni.com account will need to match the email that is on the VLM server submitted on the log file. Your end users will be able to access online training within 36 business hours of your submission.

End users
For end users there are two different methods you can do that will give you access to your online account. Both methods require information from your software admin:
  1. Contact your VLA administrator and request your serial number. You will need to enter this serial number to your ni.com account to gain access to online training. You should be able to access your online training with 24 business hours.
    1. If you are an admin and not sure where to find your serial numbers, follow these instructions:
      1. Go to the Licenses view of NI Volume License Manager. (The Serial Number column is hidden by default.)  To add it, right click on any of the column headers and select Add/Remove Columns.)

  1. To continue via phone, call National Instruments and provide the customer service representative with your name and Service ID (or Contract ID). If you don't have your Service ID, your VLA administrator can provide this. You should be able to access your online training content within 24 business hours.
    1. If you are an admin and not sure where to find your service ID, follow these instructions:
      1. Go to the Status view NI Volume License Manager and look under General Information.

    Additional Information

If you are using a license management tool other than NI VLM:

Call National Instruments and provide the customer service representative your name and Service ID (or Contract ID).  They can help your end users get set up for online training.
