Issue Details

I want to install Xilinx Compilation Tools on a Linux computer so that I can compile locally. Why are Xilinx Vivado 2015.4 Compilation Tools supported on both Red Hat and CentOS while Xilinx ISE 14.7 Compilation Tools are only supported on Red Hat?

Solution

Red Hat is the official software released by Red Hat, Inc. and CentOS is very similar to Red Hat, but used as a test bed for new features and can be buggier for that reason. NI's Xilinx Compilation Tools software is based on Xilinx's software, so that is a factor that affects the operating system compatibility of the Xilinx Compilation Tools.

If you are unable to set up a computer with a supported configuration, some of the alternatives are:

1. Install on a virtual machine running Windows 7 or other supported OS.
2. [Only available to  users with SSP accounts] Use NI FPGA Compile Cloud Service to compile using a remote server farm. Internet access required.

Additional Information

If you do not know which version of Xilinx Compilation Tools you need to install (Vivado, ISE), consult this document: Compatibility between Xilinx Compilation Tools and NI FPGA Hardware.
