  • Windows randomly hangs when I have my MXIe system attached.

  1. Make sure Windows works correctly without MXI.
    • Power down your system
    • Remove or disconnect your MXI PCI card
    • Reboot your computer and verify Windows loads as expected.

If Step 1 is completed as expected, carry out the following steps.
  1. Update the BIOS. Verify that your computer has the most recently BIOS.
    • Look in System Information to find your computers current BIOS Version/Date
  • Check your computer manufacturer's website to find out what the latest version of the BIOS is.
  1. Disable ASPM in your BIOS Settings.
  2. If your BIOS does not allow you to disable ASPM you may have the option to configure ASPM through the Windows settings.
    • Open your Advanced Power Plan Settings
    • Expand PCI Express and Link State Power Management
    • Under Setting or On Battery and Plugged In, open the drop down menu and select the desired setting

Additional Information

If Step 1 works as expected, this could be a sign that MXI is causing Active State Power Management (ASPM). ASPM, is an optional feature introduced with PCI Express. This feature allows portions of the physical layer, defined as transmitters and receivers, to power down in discrete levels to conserve power.
