Adding a Third-Party I/O Module to a FlexRIO Project in LabVIEW

Updated Nov 3, 2017

Issue Details

I have a third-party FlexRIO Adapter Module, such as the AT-1212 or AT-1120, and I want to access it in my LabVIEW project. However, I can't find the module in the IO Module Properties window under my FlexRIO. How do I add the IO module to my project?

Solution

You can add the IO Module to your project using the following steps:
  1. Copy the XML and VHDL files to: C:\<Program Files>\National Instruments\Shared\FlexRIO\IO Modules\
  2. In LabVIEW, right-click on your FlexRIO FPGA target and select Properties from the shortcut menu to display the FPGA Target Properties dialog box.
  3. Select Component-Level IP from the Category list to display the Component-Level IP Properties page.
  1. Click the Add button, select the CLIP XML file, and click the OK button.
  2. Click the OK button to close the FPGA Target Properties dialog box.
  3. Right-click IO Module under the FlexRIO target in the Project Explorer window and select Properties.
  1. Find and select the added IO Module, then click OK to close the IO Module Properties window.
Note: The CLIP Wizard automatically adds the declaration XML file to the project.

Additional Information

IO Modules or FlexRIO Adapter Modules (FAMs) are described in terms of Component-Level IP in LabVIEW. Component Level IP (CLIP) is stored as a XML file.

In order to add a new IO Module to your project you need to add the XML file corresponding to the IO Module's CLIP to your project.
