Enabling and Locating Volume License Manager Debug Log

Issue Details

I am having issues activating, checking out licenses and troubleshooting problems with the NI Volume License Manager's (VLM). How do I enable and view the NI VLM debug log?

Solution

To enable the debug log:

For VLM 2.1 and Later:
The debug log is always enabled for versions 2.1 and later.

For VLM 2.0 and Previous:
To enable the debug log from NI VLM, go to Options » Preferences » Policies and check Enable Debug Log. You must enable this option and then click Apply Changes or Start License Server before this feature will work.

The debug log file can be viewed from any text editor and can be found at:
  • Windows XP/Server 2003:  ​<Program Files>\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Bin\lmgrd.log
  • Windows Vista/7/Server 2008:  <ProgramData>\National Instruments\License Manager\Data\lmgrd.log
