Issue Details

  • When I create a probe in LabVIEW, I can see the probe label on the block diagram, but the Probe Watch Window does not appear on screen. There is no error message, but I am unable to see the value associated with any of my probes.
  • I can see in my taskbar that the Probe Watch Window is running, but I am not able to see it on my screen. How do I fix this?

Solution

This issue can occur when the Probe Watch Window position or size has accidentally been set such that it is no longer visible on your display. This behavior is especially common for multi-monitor setups. To solve this issue try the following steps:
  • If you are using a multiple monitor setup, check to see if the Probe Watch Window is on any of your other screens.
  • Open up your Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete >> Task Manager) and verify that the Probe Watch Window is running under the Processes tab. You may have to expand your LabVIEW process for this. Right click the Probe Watch Window >> Maximize to open up the Probe Watch Window. If this doesn't show up on your main screen, make sure to check your other screens as well.
  • Delete the line that begins with WatchWindowPos in the LabVIEW.ini file, for this follow the next steps:
    • Navigate to the LabVIEW directory. (where following XXXX is the LabVIEW version you're using)
      • For 32-bit versions LabVIEW, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW XXXX
      • For 64-bit versions of LabVIEW, navigate to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW XXXX
    • Right-click on LabVIEW.ini and select the Edit option.
    • In your text editor, find and delete the line that begins with WatchWindowPos. (This will reset the default size and position of the Probe Watch Window.)
    • Save and close the file.
  • If Probe Watch Window still doesn't load, delete the 𝙻𝚊𝚋𝚅𝙸𝙴𝚆.𝚒𝚗𝚒 configuration file in 𝙲:\𝙿𝚛𝚘𝚐𝚛𝚊𝚖 𝙵𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚜 (𝚡𝟾𝟼)\𝙽𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝙸𝚗𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚜\<𝙻𝚊𝚋𝚅𝙸𝙴𝚆 𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚒𝚘𝚗>\ for 32-bit editions of LabVIEW and in 𝙲:\𝙿𝚛𝚘𝚐𝚛𝚊𝚖 𝙵𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚜\𝙽𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝙸𝚗𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚞𝚖𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚜\<𝙻𝚊𝚋𝚅𝙸𝙴𝚆 𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚒𝚘𝚗>\ for 64-bit editions of LabVIEW once. By deleting the configuration file, it will reset the LabVIEW settings to default hence the problem can be solved.
  • Try repairing LabVIEW.
  • Complete a reinstallation by first removing and then installing LabVIEW again.
