Save Excel Report To File VI Broken When Moving VI To a Different Computer

Updated Dec 15, 2023

Reported In

Software

  • LabVIEW
  • LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit

Issue Details

I developed a VI using Report Generation Toolkit functions to create an Excel report.
I then moved the VI on another computer, that has both LabVIEW Development System and Report Generation Toolkit installed.
However, on that computer my VI is shown as broken since Save Report to File.vi is broken. It is listed as not executable.

How can I fix this problem?

Solution

There are two possible causes for this problem:

  • The problem may be related to a compatibility issue: Verify that your version of Report Generation Toolkit is compatible with your version of Microsoft Office. Thus, you might need to install a supported LabVIEW and Report Generation Toolkit version based on the version of Microsoft Office installed on the new computer. See Report Generation Toolkit and Microsoft Office and LabVIEW Compatibility for detailed information.
  • Some updates of Microsoft Office 365 change the ActiveX interface Report Generation Toolkit uses to connect to the office applications. This might break Report Generation Toolkit's VIs. The article Report Generation Toolkit VIs Broken After Updating Office 365 explains how to identify and solve this.

Additional Information

The Report Generation Toolkit uses ActiveX to interact with Microsoft Office. As the ActiveX interface is different for each version of Microsoft Office, each version of Report Generation Toolkit supports only specific versions of Microsoft Office.
