Issue Details

Which NI-XNET devices have a software-controlled termination of the CAN bus?

Solution

The following NI-XNET devices feature software selectable bus termination for High-Speed CAN transceivers:

  • PXI-8512
  • PCI-8512
  • PCI-8513 (in high-speed mode)
  • PXI-8513 (in high-speed mode)
  • PXIe-8510 (when using a High-Speed CAN Transceiver cable)
  • USB-8502

One these devices, you can enable 120 Ω termination resistors between CAN_H and CAN_L from your software using the NI-XNET driver's Interface:CAN:Termination property. If the termination property is set to Off, the termination is disabled. If the termination property is set to on, the 120 Ω termination resistor is enabled.

The software-selectable termination feature is located on the CAN transceiver dongles (TRC-8542), rather than on the PCIe-8510, PXIe-8510, or 9860 boards themselves. This allows you to enable termination regardless of the board’s form factor.
